Joint Health and Safety Committee Part One, Part Two & Refresher
Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) Certification is a process of:
1. Completing in-depth workplace health and safety training with a Chief Prevention Officer (CPO)-approved provider
2. Obtaining proof (your certificate) of having completed that training from the Ministry of Labour.
If your Ontario company has 20 or more employees, then under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), you are required to obtain JHSC Certification.
For most companies, compliance means having at least two committee members - one worker and one management representative - certified in health and safety. For mushroom, greenhouse, dairy, hog, cattle, and poultry farming operations, JHSC Certification training is required if there are 50 or more workers.
The JHSC certification comprises of 2 parts which need to be completed sequentially followed by Refresher trainings every 3 years to preserve your certification status.
Understand the relevant workplace health and
safety legislation, as well as their legal rights and responsibilities.
JHSC Part One Certification is offered in 2 ways:
Increase knowledge of the RACE process to develop action plans for
guarding against hazards in their sector.
JHSC Part Two is offered for the following sectors:
Review key concepts, get updates on OHS laws, codes & standards, and discuss challenges & best practices.
Our Industry Experienced Trainers deliver the JHSC certifications in 3 convenient formats:
Getting your JHSC Certification and keeping it current is important, but the benefits of completing your training go far beyond meeting OHSA requirements. When your health and safety committee members are trained, they are able to recognize and control hazards, make recommendations for improvements, and help to prevent injuries and illnesses.
JHSC Certification training prepares your committee members to be better health and safety leaders, resulting in higher productivity and less potential downtime from illness and injury.
At Workplace Safety & Prevention Services (WSPS), we are ready to guide you through the process and provide you with the training you need. “WSPS has been a huge help to us over the seven years of building this company from being certified joint health and safety committees, how to start a joint health and safety committee, working at heights.
