Legislative and Regulatory Changes included in the 2024 edition:

Construction Projects

  • As of April 15, 2023, amendments were made to O. Reg. 213/91. The first amendment reenforces the requirement that personal protective equipment be properly fitted for the worker. The remaining amendments apply to facilities, such as toilets, urinals and clean up facilities. Requirements for their placement, location, features, and maintenance were updated.

Farming Operations

  • As of April 22, 2023, an amendment was made to O. Reg. 441/05. This amendment added Ontario Regulation 559/22, Naloxone Kits, as a regulation that applies to farming operations.
  • As of August 26, 2023, amendments were made to O. Reg213/91 to update a number of sections related to cranes. These changes were made to improve crane safety on construction sites. Subjects that received updating related to the installation, maintenance, inspection and record-keeping requirements for cranes. New requirements for inspections of tower cranes included references to the appropriate international and national standards that apply. Many of these changes come into force on January 1, 2024. Others come into force on January 1st, 2025, these will appear in shading in the 2024 edition of the Green Book.

Notices and Reports under Sections 51 TO 53.1 of the Act – Fatalities, Critical Injuries, Occupational Illnesses and Other Incidents

  • As of August 26, 2023, amendments were made to O. Reg. 420/21. The requirement to submit a notice under Section 53 now includes when there is a failure to control a crane or load, including any rigging failure, at a workplace where the Construction Projects Regulation applies.
