Young workers continue to experience some of the highest rates of workplace injuries in retail, hospitality, food service, and other service sector environments. While orientation and initial training are important, factors such as changing tasks, customer demands, time pressure, working alone, and reduced supervision can increase risk long after onboarding is complete. This engaging Safety Connection explores what makes young and new workers more vulnerable to injury, the types of incidents commonly affecting them, and why risk can increase during the early stages of employment. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the workplace conditions and decisions that contribute to injuries and discover practical strategies to better support, supervise, and protect young workers as they build experience and confidence. Designed for employers, supervisors, and health and safety professionals, this session offers actionable insights to help prevent injuries, strengthen due diligence, and create safer service sector workplaces.
