As we continue to understand and cope with pandemic-related challenges, workplace violence and harassments hazards are increasingly putting Ontario workers at risk. This session will explore why there is an increase in abusive behaviours that are so often misdirected at front line workers and how to prepare them to navigate these interactions effectively. There are many ways workplaces can control hazards associated with workplace violence and harassment, which we will touch on, but the focus will be on how to identify and de-escalate customers/clients that are becoming agitated. Supporting workers during and after these high-stress situations is an important aspect of psychological health and safety and will help to decrease the likelihood of someone will experience mental harm or mental injury.
